3M™ Tegaderm™ Absorbent Clear Acrylic Dressing
3M™ Tegaderm™ Absorbent Clear Acrylic Dressing Image

3M

Product type – Consists of a conformable acrylic pad enclosed between 2 layers of transparent adhesive film.

Principle function -It is a transparent wound dressing with fluid handling capacity which allows for wound monitoring without changing the dressing. For low to moderate exudate. It is waterproof, washable and breathable. The film in contact with the wound surface is perforated to allow the uptake of the wound fluid by the absorbent acrylic pad. The film backing is not perforated and is moisture vapour permeable, but impermeable to liquid, bacteria and viruses. The dressing maintains a moist wound environment, which has been shown to enhance wound healing.

* Laboratory testing has proven that 3M™ Tegaderm™ Dressings provide a viral (HIV-1 and HBV) barrier while the dressings remain intact without leakage.

Recommended use – For patients with:

  • Partial and full thickness dermal ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Abrasions, superficial wounds, donor sites and skin tears
  • Clean closed approximated surgical sites and laparoscopic incisions.
  • Can be used as a secondary dressing.

Frequency of dressing change – During use it is normal for wound fluid to be absorbed throughout the pad. Movement of drainage to the edge of the pad does not create a need to change the dressing. The dressing should be changed if it is leaking, lifting off or there is wound fluid under the adhesive border.

Precautions – Refer to Instructions.

Contraindications – Refer to instructions

3M™ Tegaderm™ High Integrity Alginate Dressing
3M™ Tegaderm™ High Integrity Alginate Dressing Image

3M

Product type – 3M™ Tegaderm™ High Integrity and High Gelling Alginate dressings are non-woven dressings made from calcium alginate fibres.  The dressings are highly conformable, soft, absorbent, sterile, primary wound dressings.  3M™ Tegaderm™ Alginate dressings react with wound exudate to form a gelatinous mass which provides a moist healing environment.

Principle function – 3M™ Tegaderm™ Alginate dressings are intended for use on partial and full thickness wounds with moderate to heavy exudate.  3M™ Tegaderm™ Alginate dressings may be used for pressure ulcers, arterial ulcers, venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers, superficial wounds such as cuts and abrasions, donor sites, post-operative wounds, trauma wounds and other dermal lesions.  They are also intended to help control minor bleeding.  Use of any dressing including 3M™ Tegaderm™ Alginate dressings, should be part of a well defined protocol for dermal wound management.

Recommended use

  • Dermal ulcers: pressure, arterial, venous, neuropathic (diabetic)
  • Donor sites
  • Trauma wounds and abrasions
  • Malignant lesions
  • Dehisced surgical wounds

Frequency of dressing change – Typically alginate dressings are changed every 1-3 days, however the dressing may be left in place for up to 7 days depending on the condition of the wound.  Dressing change frequency will depend on wound characteristics and the amount of drainage onto surrounding skin, which can cause maceration.  As volume of drainage decreases, frequency of dressing change may be decreased or an alternative dressing should be considered.

During Use – Observe the wound site to ensure secondary dressing is intact and there is no leakage.  Monitor for signs of infection.  If infection occurs (which may be signalled by fever, increased pain, redness, swelling or an unusual odour or discharge, implement appropriate medical treatment.  3M™ Tegaderm™ Alginate dressings may be used on infected wounds only under the care of a health care professional.

Changing Dressings – Remove secondary dressing and non-gelled alginate dressing.  Rinse away remaining gel with gentle irrigation.  If dressing appears dry, saturate with sterile saline to aid in removal.  Dressing may be removed using sterile forceps or gentle irrigation.

Precautions – Should not be used on minimally exudating wounds .Inadequate drainage could lead to adherence of the dressing to the wound site. Refer to instructions.

Contraindications – This product is not indicated for surgical implantation or for use on full-thickness burns.  Please refer to the instructions.
